This early Viking Sword is based on surviving 9th century swords with a particularly fine Danish example kept within the collection of the National Museum of Denmark. This sword has a blade of tempered EN45 high carbon steel which is mounted into a highly detailed hilt of solid cast brass. Atop the guard is a black felt tab which cushions the guard when sheathing and unsheathing the blade – it can be removed if desired.

The broad cutting blade has a long, weight reducing fuller that runs for most of its length. The grip neatly couches a clenched hand in a hammer grip and its spatulate pommel can also neatly fit against the lower hand in a handshake style grip.

The sword comes with a wood-core scabbard which is wrapped in stitched black leather and completed with a brass chape and locket.

2-10-23 I received my “Early Viking Sword” today. For the price this is a really nice sword. It has a brass hilt with nice designs on it. The blade is longer than what I expected. Scabbard is nice too, and my only complaint is that the scabbard does not have a wooden belt loop on it leaving me to have to retro fit one to it. Aside from that, for those wanting an early pattern sword with designs on hilt and pommel this one is worth the money.
