Popular in the Confederacy during the Civil War for its all-purpose capabilities, the D-Guard bowie chopped branches, split logs, sliced saplings and even had its way with a Yankee or two. Re-enactors use it to dig cannon emplacements! The steel guard can withstand punishment and the massive, high carbon steel blade holds an edge well. A soldier on the move soon learns to travel light, so a handmade bowie was often treasured as a backup weapon when the entire cavalry were ”under the guns.” Grip is contoured wood with light stain. Includes leather sheath with metal furniture.

An excellent historical knife! I’m very pleased by this knife overall. The guard and handle are well fitted to the blade and it handles like a hefty short sword. I would definitely call this a short sword given the 17.75″ blade. The wood grip, I have noticed, varies in color and may be much darker than shown in the thumbnail. If you are on a budget, this is a fantastic blade for cutting practice or reenactment.

Great quality D-Guard Bowie Resembles a baby cutlass, very compact and applicable. I was cutting bottles with it right out of the box. Comfortable to maneuver forward or reverse figure 8 spins, with an all finger grip. Excellent shipping tracking notification and arrival time. Thanks KOA!

fantastic short saber/falchion/possible butterfly blade This is probably the best d-guard bowie one can get without going custom. It is slightly less thick than a traditional quarter-inch thick bowie, but it’s agile and quick. Also makes a good weapon in tight quarters, so it may double as a cutlass. Because of its shape, some butterfly sword practitioner may find buying a pair of this bad boy more economical than buying a traditional pair. Overall, a good all-around short sword/long bowie knife. A little thicker would be even better.

needs some work this is a very good looking costume piece, but the blade is very soft. mine took nicks very very easily and didn’t pass the file test. very disappointed that this isn’t a true working knife.

This toes the line between long knife and short sword, but regardless of the classification, it’s an extremely good deal for those looking to get into the hobby without breaking the bank.
