In traditional Highland dress, a Sgian Dubh is often placed into the right stocking of the Highlander. In the days of the clans it was considered improper to have concealed weapons when entering anothers home or castle. Small daggers such as the the Sgian Dubh were often a concealed sidearm and thus would be removed from a concealed location and visibly placed in the stocking when entering a home as a guest – though openly displayed, it was at hand if needed. Though the Sgian Dubh was often a weapon of last resort, it could also be used to cut the fare at the dinner plate.

This Sgian Dubh has a blade of Damascus Steel – a melding of two different types of steels intended to impart the properties of harder and softer steel together in a single blade. The black grip is of wood – carved with a thistle design on a single side and smooth on the other – it is surmounted by fittings of nickel silver. It comes with a wooden sheath covered in black leather with steel fittings.
