This regal sword is a replica of a well preserved 13th century Spanish sword. Known as ‘’The Sword of Saint Casilda’’, the sword was recovered from a Spanish convent, where it had been preserved for an unknown span of time. Today it is kept at the Institute del Conde de Valencia de Don Juan in Madrid.

There is no known connection between the sword and the Saint, for Casilda lived several centuries before the dating of the sword and there is no mention of a sword in her story. Whatever the origin, it is highly likely that the sword is Spanish, or at the very least, was forged for a Spaniard, for the crossguard and pommel bear both Latin and Spanish inscription.

The pommel bears the phrase in Latin: ‘’AVE MARIA GRATIA PLENA’’ (Hail Mary, Full of Grace). The crossguard reads: ‘’DIOS ES VINCENTOR EN TOD’’ and ‘’O DIOS ES VINCENTOR EN TODO A’’ (God is the Conqueror of All). The final A likely stands for ‘’Amen’’.

The Sword of Saint Casilda has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. The crossguard and pommel are of antique-finished brass. The pommel is inset with a leather heraldric sigil in red and black. The wooden grip is wrapped in red leather, and overlaid with black leather latticework fixed in place with brass pins. Comes with a leather scabbard with an antique-finished metal chape. The sword belt is separate, and is looped and slid onto the scabbard for a tight fit. The black leather belt is studded with antiqued-metal studs.
