Overview
Our sharpening service will provide a good serviceable edge on the blade. The result is typically “very sharp” with a small secondary bevel and a bit of an “apple seed” profile. The resulting edge is somewhat dependent on the particular blade. Some blades will take and hold sharper edges than others and the thickness of the blade will determine how wide the bevel will need to be. We adjust the angle of the edge to suit the specific blade and attempt to get as close to a bevel-less edge as possible without marring the surface of the blade.
The Sharpening Process
The sharpening service is done with a belt sander. The process involves many passes with sanding belts of various grits. The blades are rested between passes to prevent them from becoming hot and damaging their temper. By default we will sharpen as much of the blade as possible including any false edges if appropriate. If you have a different preference, feel free to make that request in the special instructions at check out. We can sharpen only the last half or third of an edge, for example. Our sword sharpening expert has personally sharpened several thousand swords at this point, so will provide you with a professional service.
What the Service is Not
The resulting edge will be “sword sharp” not razor sharp. Our goal is to provide you with a usable edge for cutting practice that will hold up to some use and not require constant re-sharpening. In other words, we intend to provide you with a serviceable weapon, not a personal grooming implement. The service will not provide a completely bevel-less edge. To create that type of edge will necessarily scratch up the blade surface and we lack the machinery and time to provide a full re-polishing of a blade’s surface. A service of that nature would be significantly more expensive as a great deal more time would be required. We do not offer this type of service at this time.
Disclaimer
We make no guarantee that the resulting edge will meet with your expectations. Every blade is different and some will take and hold a sharper edge than others, due to the blade material, heat treatment or geometry. Some customers can also have incorrect assumptions about sword sharpness and improper expectations as a result. All we can say for sure is that the resulting edge will be sharper than the default edge, in most cases, significantly so. We can not provide any refunds for the service once it has been completed, so consider it to be provided “as is”. That being said, if you are unhappy with the product for any reason, we do still allow you to return the item for a full refund, including the sharpening costs under our normal return policy. This does not apply to special sharpening requests, for example if we sharpen something specially for you that does not normally list that option on our site. The vast majority of our customers are happy with the results of the service, so as long as you keep the above mentioned in mind, we are confident you will be pleased with the results as well.

GDFB Milanese Upper Legs Picked these up as an entry level option for harness sparring and thought they looked pretty good for the price point. The picture above is most certainly a perfect model, the ones I received are not to that standard, they aren’t bad but the buckles and hinges are a bit wonky here and there (I needed to put a few stitches in each buckle to keep them from turning sideways when tightening) and the oil they were packaged in soaked deep into all the leather which has been a mess to deal with. They are heavy, much heavier than a proper pair would be but I had a professional armorer who trains with us take a look and he gave them the go ahead as far as being safe for combat use, but made it pretty clear they also weren’t going to provide the best mobility when compared to a custom set. All told I wouldn’t have been as happy if I had paid the MSRP but at Kult of Athena’s price point you wont come close to anything better.

Not worth 195.95 dollars Once it arrived, the right leg’s middle buckle broke, due to incompetent glue, and flawed leather. The other side’s buckle is so small I have to wrap it around itself to keep it tight on my leg. Otherwise, the metal is of good quality, and it looks nice. It wraps around about half your leg. I’m around 5’10, and they’re a tad bit long, but by all mean usable. I believe I can jury rig my way to success with these upper leg guards. Also they smell funny because of the oil, but that’s fine. I won’t be returning these, but by no means do I recommend them. Whatsoever. Unless you’re so rich you can afford to purchase this as expensive toilet paper. 3 star rating, for looking good, and having good METAL Materials, but because the leather isn’t good, and the buckles suck, I can’t give this an amazing review. Thank you for your time, have a nice day.
P.S. It’s not even all that heavy, You just get used to them.

Milanese legs Decent legs… I do have some qualms with them…
-in the primary photo, they are displayed turned, so that the buckle for the knee isn’t visible… the strap is riveted to the OUTSIDE of the knee. Ugly as hell. I’m going to move it to the inside where it should be , and fill the obvious hole with another rivet.
-There’s straight up no strap or buckle for the demi-greaves (they’re there in the photo). Gotta grind those rivets and strap it myself.
-The buckles themselves are pretty crappy. Gonna put my own on.
Construction-wise… Solid build. Not bad.

Too long I purchased these a few months ago to match the Milanese arms (also left a review). I believe the legs to be incredibly well priced, but they are very long and had some minor issues with how the articulated plates line up in a few spots. I’m 5’6″, and I was expecting these to be a bit oversized, but I’ll probably have to remove the upper plates entirely for them to fit without obliterating ye olde tender bits whilst moving (they’re also kind of heavy, although that’s expected from mild steel, and I’m getting used to it). Overall, very good price for what I purchased. Minor modifications needed. 4/5
