This Greek Xiphos has a blade forged from EN45 high carbon steel. The grip is a composite with layers of bone and steel sturdily riveted to the thick blade tang. The scabbard is crafted from carved wood and is overlaid in leather and finished with brass fittings. The tip chape piece is made from bone fitted between stylized brass plates.

This Xiphos is patterned after numerous Xiphoi swords found in the Campovalano necroplis - an archeological site that was once part of an coastal Greek colony on the Adriatic side of the Italian peninsula. It is very close to the Alfadena necropolis, which also yielded many similar swords to excavators.

These Greek swords were interred with their warrior-owners after death and enough of them have been found to infer that this colony was able to create or source a substantial number of such swords. Clearly, the ability to produce large amounts of high quality swords was evident at this time and perhaps the swords were made by a number of specialized craftsman in a workshop atmosphere, instead of each one individually crafted by a solitary weaponsmith.
