This sword is characteristic of the swords used by Vikings in the latter part of the Viking Age in the 11th Century. The wide blade and tea cosy pommel are typical of Viking swords found in areas colonized by Vikings in northern France and Germany. The Bayeax Tapestry depicts a sword with a pommel identical to this one being worn by William the Conqueror, the famous Norman whose ancestors were Viking colonists. These swords, with wide, fullered blades, could chop and slice with great power, whilst retaining flex and durability for the clash of blades and the accidental strike against a stout shield.

This Norwegian Viking Sword, by Deepeeka, has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. The crossguard and pommel are of steel and the grip is wrapped with spiralled brown leather. It comes with a wood-core scabbard with wooden suspension loop and steel chape.

Nicer than I thought it would be! I bought this sword on a bit of a lark. It’s been a while since I’ve sampled any of Deepeeka’s wares so I thought I’d give it a go. The sword arrived in good condition and well wrapped. Turn around time was phenomenal as usual. The sword itself was pretty solid. No rattle, no wiggle. The blade was straight and there were no unexpected blemishes. The sword itself was much better balanced than I thought it would be, probably due in part by the solid pommel and the generous fuller. The sword has a simple design, which I appreciate. The scabbard was okay. The leather itself was really quite striking and well stitched. The blade solidly rests inside without too much moving around. Unfortunately, the chape looks like a last minute afterthought. It was poorly mated to the scabbard and looks a bit rough. With a hammer and some careful work, I’m sure it could be dressed up a bit. The belt hanger is solidly done, although there was a small crack in the wood. It does not appear to negatively affect the function, though it does seem a little low on the scabbard. If they had put it about an inch or two higher it would be perfect.

So in conclusion, at this price point, I’m pleased with my purchase. The blade is solid, pretty well built, and because it’s so simple in its construction, it’s begging to be “customized”. Another advantage to not being overly expensive — if you make an error, you’re not marring an Albion Arms. Thanks, KoA!
