This Greek Xiphos has a blade of tempered 1095 high carbon steel that is sharpened and ready for immediate use. The hilt is a composite of steel, bone and blade tang; the crossguard and pommel cap are steel and the grip is formed from halves of bone which are riveted directly into the thick blade tang to create a strong and durable overall hilt construction. The bone has been finely polished to a glossy sheen and is contoured to fit the palm. Due to the organic nature and limitations of bone size the pommel is not perfectly round, but is more teardrop shaped in profile as befits the natural origin of this hilt component.

The sword comes with a thick leather scabbard with sturdily stitched construction and an integrated belt loop for wear.

Quick and hard-hitting, this Xiphos is an agile blade in the hand with a balance that allows it to quickly gain velocity for decisive cuts, yet return ably for a rapid recovery. The elongated leaf blade accentuates its cutting ability and it is a surprisingly capable thrusting blade as well. The flattened profile of the main striking portion of the blade allows it to enter and exit and target with minimum drag and this serves to maximize cutting force by maintaining greater velocity.

This is not only a good blade for the reenactor who desires a lively sword, but is a good choice for out-of-the-box backyard cutting for the enthusiast who wants to experience the cutting power of a Classical leaf-blade design.

The symmetry and flowing lines of the Xiphos make it quite an epic-styled weapon and it is easy to see why it was closely associated with the Greek heroes of antiquity.
