This is the half-wire grip option of the Ringeck sword. Selecting this option will have the bottom half of the grip tightly wrapped with wire.

In the first half of the 15th century, swordmaster Sigmund Ringeck compiled a book with comments on the fencing teachings from Johannes Liechtenauer’s verses from c.1389. (Master Sigmund Ringeck’s Commentaries on Johann Liechtenauer’s Fechtbuch – c. 1389 to 1440) Ringeck’s longsword style is very simple and yet elegant in its approach, based on efficiency and simplicity. While many of the Medieval fighting manuals primarily show counter-techniques and tricks, Ringeck’s greatness is that he starts with the basics and then step-by-step teaches the student the secrets of the longsword.

The Albion Ringeck Medieval War Sword features a sharpened high carbon steel blade heat-treated to a fine temper in the Albion Forge Shop. The grip is of stabilized birch, wrapped with cord and covered with the highest grade vegetable-tanned calfskin.

albion ringeck I got this sword with wire wrap and blue grip as my first Albion, and i am very pleased with the sword. Waiting time was just short of 10 months.

The handling is absolutely amazing, and a clear difference is noticeable between this and some cheaper longswords i have owned/ handled (cold steel, del tin, hanwei)

The blade is practically flawless aside from minor scuffing near the tip. No secondary bevel, and the edge was paper slicing sharp. None of the fittings or grip components have any movement at all.

Potential buyers should note that the leather grip seems to darken easily from sweat and oil; this is unavoidable i think, but it’s worth considering this before choosing your color. The leather also stains your hands the first few times you handle it, but no big deal.

The only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is because a clicking sound can be heard occasionally when the sword is handled at speed. Folks at Albion assure me that this is not a problem… but time will tell i suppose. I have plenty of swords of lower price point that do not have this clicking grip problem, so it is annoying to face this issue with such an expensive sword. A quick search online shows that others have this issue with their albion sword. (hint hint, come on Albion, fix this!!)

Anyway, i would highly recommend the sword if its within your budget
