The Cold Steel Hybrid Cutlass is a slightly modern take on the Cutlass. Cold Steel has combined the blade of their Naval Cutlass with a guard loosely based on their 1917 saber. This amalgamation of the two swords creates a Cutlass with a blade that can hack and slash with all the panache associated with the cutlass. The thick-spined blade has enough heft that it can parry longer and even larger weapons and further protection for the swordsman comes with the expansive guard with a rolled edge for strength and holes to reduce weight.

The blade is crafted from blackened 1055 high carbon steel. The thick tang has halves of a wooden grip securely affixed to the tang for a grip.. The sword comes with a leather scabbard with a blackened steel chape and a riveted and movable hanging belt loop.

The Cutlass; the iconic sword of the seaman. Simple and effective, its robust design was used by Western navies for centuries. It was short for the close quarters of ship fighting, yet not so long as to be tangled in rigging or disadvantaged belowdecks. British, American and Australian navies were still doing routine cutlass drills for their sailors into the early years of the 20th century. It was not until 1936 that the Royal Navy officially relegated the cutlass to a ceremonial weapon.

There have been numerous accounts of enthusiastic boarding crews ably armed with cutlasses that have overwhelmed larger ships that would have outgunned them in a ranged fight. Such as the 1801 action between the British 14-gun Speedy and the Spanish 32-gun Gamo. A crew of 40 British sailors subdued a frigate three times their number by climbing over their railings, cutlasses in hand and calling for reinforcements that did not exist! The frightened Spanish soon surrendered.

Cold steel hybrid cutlass Descent sword but on the heavy side, if your not a strong person then it might be a bit difficult for you to use it affectively. Not that sharp but you could sharpen it you self if you want but still a nice sword. Sword is not bad but it feels heavy to use if your body is not strong enough.

My thoughts on the cold steel hybrid cutlass Its a good sword except the balance is too far up the blade but besides that i would recommend it.

1917 Hybrid Cutlass opinion I splurged and bought myself a 1917 Hybrid Cutass for Christmas.
It arrived faster than anticipated, well wrapped, and generously enough coated in grease to prevent rusting prior to sale. The fit and finish is excellent for the issue type of sword it’s supposed to be. I really like the deep, dark, bluing that gives the steel a rich appearance.
The scabbard is also excellent quality. Thick leather, great fit, looks great, & clearly capable of doing it’s job in harsh conditions. The ONLY drawback to this cutlass is it’s weight. It’s heavy. A fella can hold this in your hand and be able to tell being quick with swings and blocks would be a challenge. I researched the ORIGINAL 1917 Cutlass, and found the original issue weapon was made with a thinner blade and wider fuller; both obviously qualities that would make the weapon lighter and more manageable. All that said, I’m still pleased with the cutlass, greatly. The weapon is hefty, heavy duty, capable, well built, and looks damn good. Yes, I would recommend this cutlass to others, but only those who have forearms like Popeye.
If you are a person with non-Popeye upper body strength, get something with a thinner, lighter blade. If your a bigger fella, you’re gonna like this a lot.
In summary; well built sword, worth the money, great for Zombie apocalypse…just hope ghyre the SLOW type zombies that allow you time to swing this beast. That Zombie head is gonna come right off, garunteed.

Cold steel hybrid cutlass I love this sword. The balance is indeed that of a hacking sword and in my opinion, that’s precisely what it should be. The weight is perfect, it feels heavy, but is easy to use. This makes it feel powerful. Also the black steel finish looks amazing. I can recommend this sword to anyone.
