Cold Steels Cavalier Rapier has a sharpened blade of 1055 high carbon steel. The complex guard and pommel are crafted from antique-finished steel. The grip is tightly overlaid in twisted steel wire and capped on each end with elaborately knotted steel wire. The companion scabbard is crafted from black leather and antiqued steel fittings.

By the mid-17th century some rapiers were made with slightly shorter blades and intended to be lighter, faster and quicker than the larger, more typical rapiers. They were, in effect, an early forebear of the smallsword and were intended to gain an edge in agility for the duellist.

The Cold Steel Cavalier Rapier clearly straddles this transition as the sword has the stylings reminiscent of smallsword, yet it still retains a size in between that of a long rapier and a smallsword, coupled with a lighter blade.

Absolutely blown away. This is an amazing deal. The fit was flawless, nothing was crooked, everything was Perfectly polished and no scuffs. Came oiled. Seems like a really thick blade. Isn’t very flexible at all, it’s pretty stiff..

The design is gorgeous. I bought a Cold Steel Viking sword, it looked so much better in the photos than it did in person. The “etchings” weren’t as pronounced in person as they looked on cold steels photos. I bought it off Amazon. I hope mine isn’t some fake but I doubt it, it’s a pretty low price sword so I don’t think anyone would waste time to counterfeit it.

This rapier was the exact opposite, I think it looks better in person. The grip is good, the pommel is nice, no sharp spots underneath the guard.

The scabbard is okay, I can’t complain, the leather is thick. No wood core or anything, it’s just leather.

You’ll like the sword, i feel it’s a lot more than I expected from a less than 400 dollar sword. In this price range you can’t really expect something to have such an amazing fit and finish and also be functional and probably durable as hell too, who knows. I’d trust it.

Excellent rapier. The blade is very sturdily attached to the handle. It came decently sharp, and fits really well in the sheath.

This is a well built rapier, it has a sturdy blade, great hand guard, very pointy, and actually sharp somewhat. However the wire grip digs into your hand if slashing and, in my experience, the hand guard rubs hard against the thumb. Also the blade isn’t too sharp, but I did some sharpening and it is capable of slicing and tip cutting. Overall though this is a well built piece and a sturdy rapier, beautiful in person and comfortable to use.

The Cavalier Rapier is a good sword overall.
Fit and finish is acceptable. However, for more money I think Cold Steel could have done more.
The edge is not really well done for cutting. It’s the bevel angle.
But it is very rigid for the thrust. And that’s this rapier’s focus. It’s all about the thrust with this particular one.
The Shell Guard is acceptable. As is the Grip and Pommel.

      The scabbard could be improved.
I did cut through the scabbard while sheathing.
Cold Steel should also outsourced a frog. It comes with a long steel clip for putting into a frog.
I do wish they had a wood core in the scabbard.
They do have one on their Colichemarde Smallsword. That’s a better scabbard design.
Point on the Cavalier is excellent.
Finger rings are a bit large.
Once again, the CS Colichemarde Smallsword rings are better.
      The Cavalier Quillons are great.
      Grip is good and handy.
Wish CS would have added Rayskin like their Ribbed Shell Guard rapier.
The Cavalier Rapier is better than their Ribbed Shell Guard rapier.
The blade thickness on the Cavalier Rapier is good.
      Length is also good.
