The Cold Steel long Assegai has a sharp spearhead of SK-5 Medium Carbon steel. This type of steel allows the blade to flex instead of breaking under pressure. The spearhead has been blackened. The blade fits alongside the shaft on its back. The shaft is of american ash. The spear comes with a Secure-Ex sheath of hard tactical impact plastic. It has a nylon retaining strap. The spear comes unassembled and the spearhead is secured to the shaft with a pair of wood screws which are included.

The Assegai was an ancient weapon used throughout Africa. It was only in more modern times that it was supplanted by firearms. Not just a stabbing spear, it was common for African warriors to throw the Assegai to great effect.

Please Note: Our photos show an approximation of the completed weapon – we did not screw the head to the pole, this is why the screws are not present in the photos. Also poles may have slight bends or warps, however, we inspect them to try and pick the best ones available.

Assegai Long Spear I bought the Assegai spear with the long shaft as I didn’t have a quality spear in my collection. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the piece when it arrived. For the cost, it’s a well built weapon. The steel spearhead comes with a nice edge. The size and shape give it a very traditional if somewhat intimidating appearance, and the sheath is very well built. I’m not sure what kind of wood they used for the shaft, but the shaft doesn’t have a lot of heft to it and is a rich brown color, similar to loam. The whole spear when assembled, which is extremely easy to do using the two provided wood screws, is lightweight enough to use easily with one hand, or even to throw moderate distances. I like the fact that the spearhead is easily removable from the shaft, as part of why I wanted this specific model was to use the shaft as a walking stick, and carry the spearhead and wood screws in my pack. This is an excellent spear, and for $50 as of February 2017, it’s very competitively priced.

Not happy Don’t like the speer. The blade dose not sit in the center of the shaft. It sits on the side. Had to do some filling to get the blade to sit on the shaft. I have gotten the Norse axe,Norse hand ax, pole axe, Norse hawk, warhammer, and trail hawk frome cold stell
Love them . This speer not so much. If I didn’t use the shaft for a different speer head I had I would have sent it back
