Longer than normal katanas, the O-Katana gives its wielder not only greater reach, but greater striking force due to length and leverage. It is a fearsome blade, though necessarily slightly heavier than small katanas with a center of balance farther forward of the tsuba. This O-Katana has had some of that weight disadvantage negated with the addition of a long Bo-Hi groove - this reduces weight while maintaining strength.

As a side effect though, it gives the blade a satisfying and distinctively audible ‘’whoosh’’ as it the blade geometry disturbs the air with its movement. This is the sound of “Tachikaze’’ - The Sword Wind. Bo-Hi swords are popular with students as the Tachikaze sound differs when a blade is ‘’slicing’’ the air at an improper angle, allowing the student with good ears an insight into the angle that he swings his sword.

The blade of the Dynasty Forge Musha O-Katana is crafted from 1060 high carbon spring steel. The sharp blade has been mono-tempered for shock-resisting flex and durability. The simple ring guard, a style espoused by Musashi himself, is crafted of iron, as are the fuchi and kashira grip fittings. The habaki and seppa are of brass. The wooden tsuka grip is wrapped with rayskin and overlaid with black silk tsuka-ito. Two Yajiri arrowhead menuki are wrapped beneath the tsuka-ito.

The wooden saya scabbard is coated with a black lacquer finish and has a matching black sageo cord. The saya has a cap of iron. The sword comes with a navy blue cloth sword bag..

Please Note: It is common and standard for the scabbards of these swords to have scratches, scuffs, small indentations or light and thin cracks in the scabbard lacquer.
