The Darksword Mid-13th Century Sword has been crafted with a blade of 5160 high carbon steel. The blade is dual tempered with differing hardnesses for its core and edge making it 48-50 HRC and 60 HRC respectively. This differing levels of hardness help optimize the sword by imparting both the softer steel it needs to both flex to absorb force as it parries and strikes and the harder steel it needs to retain a sharp edge that will not dull quickly.

The pommel are crossguard are of steel and the grip is of brown leather wrapped over a core of wood. Its fitted scabbard is of brown leather overlaid over a core of wood. It is fitted with a steel chape to help protect the tip.

In the High Middle Ages swords began to adapt to the increasing protection and abundance of plate and plate-derived armors as warriors increasingly began to prefer swords with greater thrusting ability. This Mid-13th Century sword is a hybrid standing at the cusp of divergence between two differing approaches of Medieval sword blade design; Cutting-oriented blades vs Thrust-oriented blades. The tapered tip of this Mid 13th-Century design allows for better thrust than wider blade types common in earlier centuries, yet it retains enough mass to ensure that when it does cut, it does so without sacrificing force and striking power. It is a high Medieval cut-and-thrust sword and a good all-rounder for thrusting and cutting capabilities married to good agility and reach. The cocked hat pommel not only aids in balancing the sword, but it also helps direct the force of a blow when executing a pommel strike leading with any of its three points.
