The Darksword 14th Century Medieval Sword has been forged from 5160 high carbon steel. The blade tempering has been differentially treated to optimize both the core steel and the edge steel for performance - the core, tempered at 48-50 HRC, is soft enough to flex and absorb shock. The edge, at 60 HRC, is harder to assist in keeping the edge sharp and to resist being dulled easily.

The crossguard and pommel are of steel and the grip, of wood, is tightly wrapped in brown leather. The sword is accompanied by a wooden scabbard that is overlaid with brown leather and fitted with a metal chape piece and an integrated sword belt.

The Latin inscription on the pommel of this sword reads, ''Tu quantum et miserescere et inimicis tuis viventes'’ Roughly translated, it says, ''May you show compassion to your enemies and all living things.'' - A knightly ideal, permanently inlaid into the steel of the pommel makes permanent the oath of the knight who wields this sword. It is a fitting sword for the late Medieval period, as the tapered blade profile not only makes the sword agile in the hand, but it also gives it excellent thrusting abilities to defeat armored foes by driving the blade into the weak points of an armored defense.
