This Viking Small Seax was created by a reenactor with other reenactors in mind. Jarl Ingvar Schildknacker of the Draugar Vinlands reenactment group wanted to create a historically inspired seax that looks like it just came from a 9th century Viking; he also wanted it to have properties similar to originals and at a price that would not discourage routine use.

This small workman’s seax is of a shape and size fitting to be the everyday utility knife of a Viking. The blade of high carbon steel is of a grade of steel that will emulate the properties of iron - the edge will need routine sharpening to hold its edge and it has been designed to be just like that. The reenactor, like his dark age predecessor, will have to do a level of care and upkeep of the blade edge that would have been familiar to a Viking.

The handle is fashioned from red oak and then dyed using a walnut vegetable dye. It was finished by being burnished with beeswax buffed with a leather strap. There are three small and rustic decorative carvings on both sides of the handle.
