CSN14260.7 High Carbon Steel
2 lb 4.4 oz

Purpose made for pounding armor, this one-handed mace would look proper in the hands of a knightly horseman or a dismounted professional man at arms. Maces had been in military use for centuries, but they changed in the late medieval era to deal with plate armor. Flanges at the mace head would now concentrate all the force of the swing into a small area - the better to rend armor asunder or batter the man within. Late medieval maces began to have hand-protecting rondels and a wire-wrapped grip, such as this example.

This mace, made by Fabri Armorum of the Czech Republic has been crafted from high carbon steel. The grip is wrapped in wire and a leather loop for the wrist is knotted to the bottom - a prudent and simple feature for a horseman. The grip is 4 1/2'' long.

Please Note: While all-steel maces are sturdy they are not indestructible. They were designed for striking targets softer and less dense than the mace - namely warriors wearing steel armor which was considerably thinner than the mace flanges. Bashing a steel mace onto concrete roads, dense trees and wood beams, cinder blocks, I-beams and other hard or dense targets may result in bending the steel mace, damaging its flanges or causing other damage.
