Works of Italian master of arms Fiore dei Liberi from the Florius Manuscript are presented in this volume and are richly illustrated in full color and hardcover bound. The father of Italian swordsmanship, Fiore mastered and taught the complete martial arts of his time and taught his students how to best use the sword, spear and axe alongside wrestling, knife-fighting and mounted combat. His 1409 magnum opus il Fior di Bataglia (The Flower of Battle) is one of the most extensive sources on medieval martial arts.

Volume Three – Florius de Arte Luctandi presents a color reproduction and translation of the last and most visually lush of the manuscripts reproduced in this volume series. Translations of much of its text are provided alongside the original text for clarity.

The Florius manuscript is a posthumous work which has some mysteries as who it was made for and why, and why there are differences between the Florius manuscript in instruction and some techniques from earlier works of Fiore – are they errors in translation or are they instead an evolution on the thoughts and techniques of Master Fiore?

These questions are tackled by the authors in this volume which builds on the Volume One sourcebook and establishes the particularly vibrant Florius manuscript as not merely a martial arts manuscript, but as a work of art in its own right and an example of Renaissance patronage.
