Part of the Hank Reinhardt collection, the Generation 2 Dordogne Sword is based on an original sword dating from 1410 to 1450AD, dredged up from the river Dordogne near Castillon France. The original sword was examined by noted sword expert Ewart Oakeshott and classifyed as a type XV. The Type XV was developed to oppose the plate armor of the time. Although plate armor would be impenetrable to a thrust from a hand held weapon, there were many junctions and openings in the armor that the sword could penetrate. Gripped with two hands, both covered in mail gauntlets, with one hand on the blade and the other on the hilt, a very powerful thrust could be delivered, splitting mail links and forcing its way through the various opening of the armor. Although the primary purpose the Type XV was in thrusting, many had well sharpened blades as well, which could deliver a disabling cut to a lighter armed opponent. The Generation 2 Dordogne Sword features a sharpened, hand forged, high carbon steel blade. The hilt features a solid steel guard and pommel and a wood grip wraped in black suede. Includes a wood scabbard wrapped in leather with steel accents. What happened to the reviews? |
