This Shinwa Shirasaya Sword has a sharpened blade of melded red and black damascus steel; the base of the blade retains a thickened spine for durability, but it soon tapers into a second, double edge that runs most of the length of the blade.

The grip is gloss-lacquered wood and the habaki is copper. The wooden scabbard is likewise treated with a gloss lacquer finish to match the grip.

Interesting. I don’t own this sword and it’s unlikely I’ll ever buy it but I’ve got to say it looks amazing and when I clicked the photos for the close-up on the blade for a second I thought it was an amazingly carved piece of word; it’s crazy how well it can play a trick on you.

Great piece, but very thin blade. I wouldn’t use it for cutting, especially with a shirasaya handle, but it looks awesome with the damascus and is a good deal for the price.
