This single-handed knightly sword with a Maltese cross on the pommel was hand-forged by Wulflund of the Czech Republic; the sword was built for sport and stage combat and has blunt edges that are at least 2 mm thick. The steel is tempered 14260 CSN high carbon steel with a hardness of 50-52 HRC.

The crossguard and pommel are hand forged and of steel. The Cross is present on both sides of the pommel and it makes the sword look like it fits at the hip of a Knight of one of the militant monastic orders; the Templars, Hospitallers, Teutonic Knights and others. The grip is overlaid with leather with three diamond-shaped risers fitted beneath the grip. A circular riser frames the hand within the grip. The grip has some extra length that allow the sword to be wielded by a second hand with some pommel overlap is needed.

To ensure that this sword is durable, the guard and pommel were welded to the thick tang and the tang was given a large peen on the pommel. These measures make the hilt components of the sword quite secure and unlikely to shift with use.

The thick pommel of this sword counter-balances the thick blade to give it a point of balance near to the hilt; this gives the sword good balance and agility for a thick-bladed stage and sport combat weapon.

Please Note: The grip color and the type of leather grip wrap used on this sword can vary – grip colors can vary from brown to black. There may also be variations in hilt style or grip length.
A scabbard is available separately for this sword. A picture link to it is to under the sword photos in the ”also available” section.

A Fan of This Sword The weight and balance of this sword is what I would consider extremely nice! It is very nice to wield and use both in training and in tournament. The 3 star rating may appear odd given how I’ve started this review, but there is a reason. This sword developed a bend in the blade during tournament, and when the sword has only been in use for a couple of months. Furthermore, it was one of a few swords I use, so it did not see usage as much as if it were my only sword, or one of only a couple. Nevertheless, I was able to bend it back to a sufficient position and the sword has continued service for well over a year after this happened. The sword’s blunt edge can take a great deal of punishment and shows little wear for the use. The hilt assembly is tight and solid after a great deal of use, and the peened construction is extremely well done. Overall, it’s great and I’d buy another one if it were not on backorder.

Not only is the sword beautiful and balanced well for a stage combat sword but the sound of this steel is gorgeous. What a ring! With me the sword gets light usage but it’s been a joy to use. Would have loved a sheath but, oh well. I plan to get another one.
