This recreation of the 9th Century Hedeby Sword has a blade which is hand-forged from Damascus steel; the melding of two different steels into a single layered blade created the rippled and swirling patterning visible throughout the blade. Many original Viking swords had blades which were created by forging together different steels into a single blade through the pattern welding process and this smithing technique left visible patterns on the blade.

The crossguard and pommel are finely detailed and well-cast from brass and completed with an antiqued finish. The wooden grip is tightly bound in stitched red leather to finish the sword with a vibrant red hue. A companion scabbard of wood is included and the scabbard is bound in matching leather and adorned with an antiqued brass chape, locket and suspension loop which are richly adorned in Viking knotwork. The suspension loop allows for the scabbard to be slung from your own baldric or sword belt.

This Viking sword is a recreation of an original 9th century burial find from Hedeby (Haithabu) in Denmark. The original sword hilt is in very good condition and its numerous etched symbols and knotwork make it stand out as a finely crafted sword for its time – it was likely the sword of a Danish noble, chieftain or champion who stared down the borders of the nearby Carolingian Empire.

Excellent sword! Petersen type K hilt is lovely, with same markings as original. Made of antiqued brass rather than the original silver, but that certainly keeps the price down. The handle is a little longer than the original, but good if you plan on wearing gauntlets or gloves while wielding. The blade is beautiful with nice patterns. For the price this is as close to the original pattern welded 9th century sword as you can get. Nice balance for a Viking sword.

It’s a very good and so far sturdy blade, when I received the blade it came worped and the tip damaged but besides that and some glue out the hilt it’s a good strong and sturdy blade
