Ronin Katanas replica of the Harriet Dean sword is a Limited Edition sword which features the recreated Arabic inscription that was etched onto the original sword blade – a sword which was once part of the famed Alexandria Arsenal Collection. The sharp blade is crafted from 1075 high carbon steel and the hilt furniture is stainless steel; the blade tang is peened over the pommel for an overall solid hilt construction. The wooden grip was finished with a cord wrap with a final, tight layer of leather.

The sword comes with a wood-core companion scabbard which is bound in leather and fitted with a metal chape. A sword belt of leather is knotted and interwoven with the scabbard.

Sharp and surprisingly agile despite its impressively large proportions, this early 15th century longsword is an eminently capable cutter with a distinctly tapered thrusting tip. The dimensions of this replica come quite close to original swords of this type and its overall length and blade length come within mere inches of the Bashford Dean sword, which is a sibling sword of the Harriet Dean sword Ronins replica is based on. This replica also comes very close to the Bashford Dean in weight with only a handful of ounces to separate them. Both of the original Dean swords were part of the Alexandria Arsenal collection for centuries and were well preserved by both the climate and their caretakers and were probably diplomatic gifts to the Mamelukes from Cyprus. The Arabic inscriptions on the blades of European swords in the collection generally denoted the benefactor who donated the sword and the date it was interred into the Arsenal.

The Harriet Dean sword is quite an interesting case for it had been lost since 1943 when it disappeared after a private estate sale. It only recently was spotted in 2015 by an Arms and Armor expert among an assortment of arms being offered to Christies for auction. Experts had been searching for it for decades, all the while being taunted by its near twin already on display at the NY MET museum. It has been described as a once in a lifetime find to rediscover this missing sword.
