This Ocular Viking Spangenhelm is crafted from plates of riveted 16 gauge steel. The blackened interior of the helm is lined with a leather suspension liner and a matching chin-strap with a brass buckle. The suspension liner can be adjusted to fit with the included leather cord. The helmet is finished with a butted mail camail of mild steel.

This is a fierce-looking design which still grants its wearer good vision and breathability; the chainmail camail extends protection to the neck and shoulders of the wearer.

Quite a heavy helmet, and larger than I thought it would be. Compared to my sallet, this helmet is particularly heavy (likely due to the chain camail attatched to it) and appears quite large on my head. I imagine it will look better once I obtain a hauberk, plus some extra space between the helmet and my head is never a bad thing. I have no trouble at all hearing, breathing, or seeing in this helmet, and aside from the weight (significantly mitigated by having the chin strap pulled tight), I have no complaints about this fierce looking Norse recreation.

Honestly I didn’t expect much but the first time I put this on I was very impressed, for the price this is a very good helmet now it’s not going to fit perfect but it’s not custom made so don’t expect it to however it does fit WELL.. for this price range you could do alot worse this is good and useable.

Very nice. Its pretty heavy and I recommend wearing some kind of padded coif or hood underneath it. Using the chin strap helps a lot with the weight. The camail is made of butted rings, and not riveted, which isn’t that big of an issue and is really my only nitpick. Otherwise it looks very well made, especially for its price, and it fits pretty well for a helmet that isn’t custom.
