This 14th Century Bascinet has been created from 14 gauge steel. The hinged visor can be raised and it can also be securely fixed into the down position with an adjustable leather neck strap. The bottom of the helmet exterior is fitted with brass fixtures that can be used to anchor a chainmail aventail in place if desired. This aventail is not included.

The interior of the helmet has been blackened and is fitted with an adjustable suspension liner of padded cotton.

This version of the bascinet has the typical curved crown and top designed to deflect much of the force of a strike. The visor has been designed by an armorer who well understood how a curved surface helps to dissipate the force of the blow better than a flatter surface or one with hard edges.

Decent out of box fit Just received this helmet, no fight test yet. Feels thick, but the weight distributes nicely. Only problem is the liner that was included came with a busted seam so I can’t use it until I stitch it up, for fear of it tearing further. -1star for damaged goods.

Great Great Bascinet, especially for the price The photos really do not do it justice. The medial ridge and “cone” are very well defined, the faceplate is slightly pointed and not as round as it looks. Very menacing. feels light in the head and has good visibility and breathability but I intend to drill the visors ventholes a smidge wider. Leaps and bounds ahead of the GDFB bascinet lineup which are in many cases unwearable. Also the only out of box 100% legal for ACL, adrian empire, or sca combat with the addition of a neck strap.

The liner on mine also ripped out almost immediately at the front but it seems of good quality canvas/padding. Not a problem since I’m on the fence of going for closed cell foam and an arming cap or to sew it in the right way with waxed cordage instead of cotton thread.

The vervels aren’t set up for any of the aventails offered here but are perfect for cutting the hood off one of my old coifs

Insane durability and pairs with aventail perfectly.
Poor breathing holes and okay visibility
Needs holes to be drilled out

I saw the warnings about drilling out the breathing holes which isn’t a problem since I could fix that. What disappointed me was when I couldn’t get the helmet on my head because the right base had been slightly bent in and the visor was as well (like someone stood on it). That was a task getting it straightened out. Which impressed me how difficult it was which speaks to the durability of the helmet. Once I got it put back together and on I also noticed that the visor sits about a quarter of an inch too high (holes for the hinge rivets need to be lower) making it impossible to see (more than normal). I solved that by drilling some new holes which was not easy. While I’m impressed by the durability, weight distribution, and menacing appearance. I’m only giving it three stars because of the amount of work it took to get it right and the visor now having extra holes in an area it shouldn’t.
