This Medieval or Dark Ages feasting and dining cutlery set is handcrafted entirely from horn with a smoothly polished finish and they are ready for the supper table of the peasant, country rustic, hunter and hermit. The knife is dull and though it is fit for cutting bread puddings you may want to thin and hone its edge to give it better cutting ability. We can also sharpen it for you for an additional fee, but please be aware that because this knife is not steel it will have an edge similar to a sharp plastic knife which is suitable for cutting things like butter or cheese after sharpening. Please Note: It is normal for the cutlery to have a slight bend or curvature in its form due to the nature of starting with and working with organic horn material.

Metal was expensive in the dark ages and early medieval period and a peasant household would be wise to utilize more readily available materials, namely horn and wood, and fashion it into their bowls and cutlery. A good activity, especially during the winter months to while away time before planting season began anew.
