Brass Katana Fittings - Lion Dog Theme

No Longer Available

The Komainu (Lion-Dog) are often the creatures seen at the entrances of temples and shrines in China and Japan. They stand vigil over their sacred spaces and repel evil spirits. Though lions are not native to Asia, the Chinese at the eastern end of the silk road would have traded for lion pelts and heard the lion tales from the hawkers of these wares. Usually one of the pair has an open mouth, and its counterpart a closed one. This is to represent the’’a-um’’ syllable sacred to Buddhism – the verbal manifestation of the ‘’beginning and end of all things’’.

Hand-cast from solid brass and accented in gold and silver, the fittings can change the look and graphic theme of your katana. Includes Tsuba, Fuchi, Kashira and 2 Menuki.

Tsuba: 3 1/8'' x 3 1/8''
Tsuba: 6.0 oz Fuchi: .9 oz Kashira: .6 oz
