Darksword Armorys Mid-13th Century Sword has a blade crafted from 5160 high carbon steel. The blade has been differentially-tempered to have a softer core hardness of 48-50 HRC and a harder edge of 60 HRC. This type of tempering creates a blade with a softer, flexing, shock-resistant core and a harder edge that resists dulling easily.

Its pommel and crossguard are of steel and the grip is of wood and is tightly wrapped with brown leather for a grip. Its companion scabbard has a core form of wood and it is covered with brown leather and fitted with a steel chape piece and an integrated sword belt.

A sword of this type occupies the transitionary period between chainmail based armor types and the beginning of plate armor becoming more of a force on the battlefield. The blade has a more tapered geometry then its forebears, giving it a better thrusting ability, though the blade has remained wide enough, even at the tip, that it does not sacrifice much cutting ability. The cocked hat pommel has three distinct points that could be used to pommel strike a foe in very close combat, dealing more impact damage than a simple disc or brazil nut pommel would.

Darksword Armory 13th Century Arming Sword

Stunning! This is one handsome sword. I just got mine today and I was instantly blown away by its beauty. The build quality is excellent, everything sits tight and snugly, there is a gap between the guard and the blade but it’s not to bad. The scabbard is also very beautiful, wood core and the blad fits very well, it won’t fall out if turned upside down. I also have to mention Kult of Athenas top notch customer service, as I originally ordered the “Valiant-Armory – Norman Sword”, they soon after notified me that the blade was out of production and that they would happily refund me my money, or find an alternate product. I choose this very quickly, they also gave me a “Darksword Armory – Norman Dagger” since this sword was a bit cheaper. I cant say anything else that I feel very blessed at this moment, many thanks to KoA and DS!
