This Polish 1917 Ulahn Saber has a blade forged from high carbon steel; it is etched on a single side with the motto HONOR I OJCZYZNA (Honor and Fatherland). The hilt is crafted from detailed cast brass and its grip is leather with inlaid brass wire bound over a core of wood. It is paired with a companion scabbard of steel with a pair of steel hanging rings.

This type of saber was the first saber issued to Polands famed Ulahn cavalrymen after Polands independence in 1918. Sabers such as this crossed swords with the blades of Soviet cavalrymen in the 1920 Battle of Komar in the Polish-Soviet War – a war that halted Communisms westward progress into Europe and asserted Polands recent independence. This battle had the distinction of being the last major cavalry-only engagement in history and the Polish cavalrymen soundly defeated the Soviet invaders.

Please Note: It is common for steel scabbards and steel swords to have some cosmetic blemishing present which comes from blade contact with steel scabbard which can cause scuffs / scratching on the blade.

A good sword especially for the price. Cuts well, great detail, though it is in the heavy end.

    3. Daniel (verified owner)

Absolutely amazing, the detail and engraving of the saber was fantastic. You could see some imperfections on the hilt, handle, guard etc. but overall a great purchase.
