This Germanic Seax with its damascus steel blade is emblazoned with the bold patterning created by damascus steel. Like burl-wood or rippling water, the pattern is created by the mixing of different steels into a single blade. Germanic, Viking and Saxon smiths alike had no access to modern, industrial-processed pure steel and thus often created forged pattern-welded blades that combined multiple types and hardnesses of steel into a single blade to create a composite whole which was superior to any single steel on its own. This was the ideal solution for their time using the tools and knowledge available to them. Though damascus is different to pattern welding, it is similar in the fact that it involves the combining of several steels which leave distinct telltale patterning.

The bolster and pommel cap are polished brass and the grip is smoothly finished wood. Included with this seax is a stitched and oiled leather sheath with a belt loop.
