The Tori katana combines truly elegant furniture and a powder-steel folded blade with the functionality of Hanwei’s Performance Series. The Tori features a ”Flying Crane” themed Tsuba and Fuchi/Kashira while the Menuki are Kabuto or Japanese helmets. The high quality brown leather Tsuka-ito is wrapped over black Same. The Saya is wrapped at the mouth with black-lacquered rattan and then finished in a textured brown. Includes a sword bag and traditional maintenance kit.

The XL Light series blades feature the same geometry as the XL series, but incorporate deeply cut grooves (Bo-Hi) to reduce the weight of the blade while retaining most of it’s strength and cutting ability. This weight reduction makes for a quicker sword, well adapted for multiple cuts in lighter targets.

FROM KOSHIRA TO KOJIRI this is an impressive sword on all details. The leather maki is tight and very comfortable on the hands. Fittings are understated but very well executed. The heart of the sword is the blade and this one does not disappoint. Very sharp and it will definitely “sing” when you swing. No serious cutting yet but glides through noodles like they are not even there. It must be the blade geometry, as it is certainly not my skill, that snaps off perfectly angled cuts with no scooping. The Saya is extremely nice looking and holds the sword perfectly. It draws quietly without the usual Hanwei rattle. This is the nicest sword I own so I can’t compare it to other swords in this price range (as I don’t own any more, yet) but I can’t see how anyone would be unhappy with this very serious cutter. Easy 5 star as I couldn’t find anything wrong except some wonky menuki which I replaced with black delrin to blend in with the same.
