Reinforced Large Steel Buckler – 16 inch – 16 Gauge Steel – Lord of Battles

This relatively large buckler is crafted from sturdy 16 gauge steel reinforced with riveted steel bands. The buckler is blackened on its back and is fitted with a riveted steel grip. The grip is finished with two wooden halves riveted to the steel for a much better grip for the hand.

Though small compared to other types of shields, the buckler is a surprisingly adept dueling defense. More easily maneuvered than larger shields, the buckler needs to only be placed in the path of the foes weapon to absorb or deflect his attack. Unlike larger shields, a buckler is not held close to the body, but instead held outward toward the opponent. This placement can cut off many avenues and angles of attack by the foe and create a space of defense in front of its wielder that is much larger than the size of the buckler would initially suggest.

Though typically seen as a tool of defense, a skilled fighter knows how to utilize his buckler as an off-handed weapon to punch the foe, or to use the rim to strike the face or even let the rim catch the blade of the foe to potentially damage his weapon.
