The Viking Jarl sword has a forged blade of tempered high carbon steel which is mounted into a hilt of cast brass. The wood grip is tightly overlaid in dyed leather. The companion scabbard for the sword is crafted from wood and is bound in stitched leather to match the grip; the protective chape and locket are well-cast Viking knotwork fittings of brass.

The brass hilt with its intricately detailed runes and icons coupled with eye-fetching and boldly colored leather make this sword stand out from many of its peers, making it an ideal sword for a Viking chieftain or champion. Even a more utilitarian sword was a prize in Viking society, but embellished examples replete with design truly made its bearer stand out in Viking society as a person of great standing and import – or a particularly successful raider.
