The Musashi Zetsurin Katana has a blade of tempered 1045 high carbon steel and a second hidden blade; a Kozuka knife that discreetly slides into a slot in the scabbard. The sharpened blade is mounted into a wooden grip with a antiqued metal fuchi and kashira hilt components. The black faux rayskin on the grip is overlaid in cord to complete the sword. The sword is matched with a wooden scabbard which is finished in a glossy white lacquer and a matched sageo cord. The included Kozuka knife with a sharpened steel blade is a finely detailed utility knife which has its own slot in the scabbard where it can be readily removed for use.

The Zetsurin katana is a cross between a traditional katana and a shirasaya. The detailed metal Fuchi and Kashira portrays the Asahina family crest. The Asahina family was a Japanese clan during the Sengoku period who were known to be fierce warriors who were feared by all their enemies.

I ordered this mainly to see if I would be interested in sword collecting/ tatami and tatami like cutting. I didn’t do much research and a 1045 high carbon steel blade was not to fit my needs however I am thoroughly surprised.
Pros: 1. blade came decently sharp.
      2. Heavier and higher quality than I expected.
      3. Swing feels pretty okay in my hands ( although I haven’t much to base that upon)
      CONS:
      1. Saya is not of the greatest quality (not to be expected for the price)
2 Habaki was loose and rattling upon arrival.
      3. Blade tang only held in with 2 relatively loose wood dowels
      4. The included kozuka bends with very little effort ( dropped and point bent a 180°.
With all that said I put this thing through hell in just 2 days. I spent totally an hour slicing 0.5 to 1 inch diameter limbs and wood ( i feel bad). Through all that though there is only one small nick in the cutting edge of the blade and maybe 1 or 2 small scratches upon the blade. I plan no more to disrespect this sword and inflict no further damage on it. I would put no higher quality blade through such and this is an amazing starting sword for the beginner collector, with that said I now trust kult of Athena’s “battle ready” tag and am excited to purchase high end swords from them. One more thing to add that if you were to strictly stay with rolled newspaper and light targets then this blade would last very long although frequent sharpening would be expected. Thank you Kult of Athena!!!

It Looks sleek, and beautiful on my wall, but it’s not very “battle ready”, I use cardboard instead of tatamis and it couldn’t even cut half way through. It’s dull and it bent on the first day of using it in less than 5 slashes😭. It’s good for decor and practicing in the air.
