Overview
Our sharpening service will provide a good serviceable edge on the blade. The result is typically “very sharp” with a small secondary bevel and a bit of an “apple seed” profile. The resulting edge is somewhat dependent on the particular blade. Some blades will take and hold sharper edges than others and the thickness of the blade will determine how wide the bevel will need to be. We adjust the angle of the edge to suit the specific blade and attempt to get as close to a bevel-less edge as possible without marring the surface of the blade.
The Sharpening Process
The sharpening service is done with a belt sander. The process involves many passes with sanding belts of various grits. The blades are rested between passes to prevent them from becoming hot and damaging their temper. By default we will sharpen as much of the blade as possible including any false edges if appropriate. If you have a different preference, feel free to make that request in the special instructions at check out. We can sharpen only the last half or third of an edge, for example. Our sword sharpening expert has personally sharpened several thousand swords at this point, so will provide you with a professional service.
What the Service is Not
The resulting edge will be “sword sharp” not razor sharp. Our goal is to provide you with a usable edge for cutting practice that will hold up to some use and not require constant re-sharpening. In other words, we intend to provide you with a serviceable weapon, not a personal grooming implement. The service will not provide a completely bevel-less edge. To create that type of edge will necessarily scratch up the blade surface and we lack the machinery and time to provide a full re-polishing of a blade’s surface. A service of that nature would be significantly more expensive as a great deal more time would be required. We do not offer this type of service at this time.
Disclaimer
We make no guarantee that the resulting edge will meet with your expectations. Every blade is different and some will take and hold a sharper edge than others, due to the blade material, heat treatment or geometry. Some customers can also have incorrect assumptions about sword sharpness and improper expectations as a result. All we can say for sure is that the resulting edge will be sharper than the default edge, in most cases, significantly so. We can not provide any refunds for the service once it has been completed, so consider it to be provided “as is”. That being said, if you are unhappy with the product for any reason, we do still allow you to return the item for a full refund, including the sharpening costs under our normal return policy. This does not apply to special sharpening requests, for example if we sharpen something specially for you that does not normally list that option on our site. The vast majority of our customers are happy with the results of the service, so as long as you keep the above mentioned in mind, we are confident you will be pleased with the results as well.

I had high hopes for Deepeeka’s “new & improved” line, and for this new version of the Cluny sword. Sadly, this sword was a disappointment. The big issue was the blade. The hardware & scabbard were fine, but the blade was an absolute mess. This thing was wavy as a lake in high winds. And, there as a narrowing in the width in one place on one edge. Looked like someone accidentally set the edge on the wheel end of a belt grinder and ground a depression in the edge. I sharpen my own blades using a belt grinder, and this one was a lot of work, trying to compensate for all the issues with the blade. I finally got a nice edge on it, but the only way I could get that depression out of the one edge would be to re-shape the blade. It looks better after sharpening, but it’s still noticeable.
I guess quality control will never be Deepeeka’s strong suit. I”m not sure I can lay down my money for another of their swords, certainly not as long as they keep churning out this kind of trash.

I ordered one of these Deepeeka Cluny’s because I really liked the aesthetics. I got it and was equally impressed by the actual sword and scabbard. I ordered 2 more to give as gifts and was just as happy with the 2nd and 3rd swords I received. They are a great value for the money. I had no serious quality control issues or any problem with symmetry. They are not CNC blades, so there is the tiniest bit of waviness and variation which I would expect in a hand forged blade at this price point, but nothing that negatively affects the overall appearance or beauty of the sword. With my naked eye, I can detect no profile asymmetry, but placing the edges on a flat surface shows there is maybe a 32nd of an inch of variation between the sides.
Handling is really good, light, maneuverable, and versatile. The scabbard is very pretty and quite fitted for a basic generic scabbard. The antiquing on the fittings was attractive and even. I own hundreds of swords ranging from basic models like this to custom one of a kind pieces costing thousands of dollars. The swords I received from this lot are all high quality and excellent value at this price point.

This is great for the price point.
I would advise getting it with an edge on it as i can barely get it in the scabbard as is without one.
The blade does seem to have a very minor bend to it and the leather on the hilt is not as pristinely shaped as in the pictures.
I’m pretty ok with it but I can imagine some others would have a hard time enjoying themselves after noticing these things. The pommel also isn’t perfectly aligned.
So 3 out of 5 for overall score but I’d give it a 4/5 for the price. I mean it is a cheap sword, so you get a cheap sword. Great as a costume piece.

A very well-made sword. I’m not quite sure why some people think otherwise, other than they expect a quality that was never existent during the time the originals were made. I don’t understand why they would want an item that is ahistorical. This sword, as it is, would have been prized in its day. Wonderful work from Deepeeka. I especially like the leatherwork, and the grip is perfect. The scabbard is a little over-built, but still beautiful. At least Deepeeka includes a scabbard, and good ones at that. I say good ones, not great ones, but they are very nice with good leather. I don’t have to make a custom one. Something I would never do for a much higher priced sanatized ahistorical sword anyway. A great sword and perfect imperfections!
