This dagger is recreated from an original Roman find at the city of Dura Europos – one of Rome’s easternmost holdings of its Empire which is located in modern day Syria. At the crossroads between Rome and the west, and the Sassanid Empire and the kingdoms of the East, Dura Europos was a military and cultural hub of the Empire and excavations of its ruins have yielded fantastic treasures and artworks, including this Roman 3rd century dagger.

Single edged with a tough and practical design, this replica has a blade of C60 high carbon steel. The blade, like the original has a slight forward curve. Its bolter and pommel cap are crafted from brass and the grip is polished wood. The dagger is paired with a wooden scabbard which is embellished with a pinned brass plate and finished with a knotted leather strap. In a manner similar to a seax, the dagger was meant to be worn horizontally or at a near horizontal angle.
