The Darksword Armory German Executioner Sword is designed after a later historical model that survives in the Medieval Crime Museum (Mittelalterliches Kriminalmuseum) in Germany. This sword dates from the 1720’s at the end of the period where swords were used for executions. This sword features a long, heavy blade that ends not in a point but a distinctive flat edge. The blade is heavily decorated as many executioners swords would be and the inscription translates to ”I spare no one” a brutal message for criminals facing this swords edge.
Features an unsharpened 1060 high carbon steel blade. The guard and pommel are steel, while the grip is wood with a brown leather wrap. Includes a wood scabbard with leather wrap and steel accents and belt.

Not perfect, but you still come out ahead This thing’s a beast, and definitely worth sticking my neck out for. As far as the weight and POB are concerned, I can’t come up with any glaring inaccuracies off the top of my head. It does have a secondary bevel on the edge, which is kind of annoying for this price range, but nothing worth losing your head over. The fittings and scabbard are also rather loose and noisy, but it’s still a monstrous cutter, which should take some weight off your shoulders. It’s not exactly head and shoulders above the competition (because there IS no competition), but if you’re simply looking to add a sub-$1000 executioner sword to your collection, then this one’s a no-brainer.

I bought this mainly due to the uniqueness of the blade. Learning about the history of executioner swords was the best part of it. In hands, it’s top heavy (duh). It is not entirely unlike getting a large piece of spring from Lowes and swinging it in terms of feel. The engraved detailing on the blade is beautiful and I haven’t noticed any difficulty in maintaining the blade due to them. In fact, the rigidity of the blade makes it extremely easy to maintain even at its size. My one complaint is the maker actually managed to sharpen the rounded tip. I personally would’ve preferred the edge stopping at the three holes near the tip. If you want an excellent chopper, a cool conversation piece, or simply a unique blade for an avid collector, you can’t go wrong with this one.
