This sword has the simple crossguard and pommel that was favored by the warrior-monks of the Knightly Orders and other pious knights – The simple cruciform sword an emulation of the cross of Christ. The Church encouraged this idea as it re-forged the institution of knighthood from simply being armed, professional warriors into a militant arm of the Church; knights of all heraldric colors were expected to defend and to uphold the tenants of Christianity wherever they might be.
This idea was fully developed into the Knightly Orders of the Templars, Hospitallers and the Teutonic Orders who took the vows of monks and took to the fields, castles and caravan routes of the Middle-East and Christendom to impose or uphold the Church by force of arms. By the form of the cruciform-hilted sword, the Will of God was dealt in the form of the cross itself. Whether in the hands of the pious knight, motivated to Crusade or the warrior-monks of the Holy Orders, swords of this cruciform design crossed blades with the scimitars and sabers of Islamic warriors, whose curved sword blades were likened to the crescent moon of Islam.
This cruciform-hilted sword is made by Deepeeka. The blade is crafted from high carbon steel and the hilt fittings are of steel. This sword has a thick, blunt blade intended for stage combat. The grip is wrapped in brown, leather cord. It comes with a wood-core scabbard covered in dark brown leather and affixed with a wooden suspension loop. The protective tip chape of the scabbard is of steel.
