This 13th Century Pot Helm is lavishly embellished with a cross and crown of riveted brass onto its 16 gauge steel form. The inside of the helm is blackened and is fitted with a padded, adjustable liner of quilted cotton; the liner can be adjusted to best fit the head. The helm is completed with a leather chin strap that can be adjusted to fit with its antiqued brass buckle.

This type of helm, almost akin to a Great Helm in appearance, is really an evolution of the simple pot helm – but with the addition of a face plate, as well as side and back plates to make a helm that fully encompasses the head.

This helmet is very nice! The brass crown, while looking a bit offset in the picture, actually came looking pretty strait. Also, it feels solid, and I could imagine it taking some pretty good hits. Though, I wouldn’t recommend this helmet if your looking to use it for SCA fighting or anything like that. When putting it on, the front of the helm just barely touches my nose, and one good thrust to the face would make for a bad day indeed. And one more negative is there aren’t enough holes in the chinstrap for me to fully tighten the helmet, but punching a few holes in it is an easy fix. And that’s why I chose to give it 4 stars. But otherwise, it’s a great centerpiece for my 13th century kit and I’m happy with my purchase!

I did not buy this helm from KOA, (sorry) but it is a very regal, knightly looking piece. The riveting on the brass is a little ‘off’ in places on mine, but I still get comps at the Ren-Fests. Make no mistakes—this is not a common field soldiers helm. This belongs on the head of a Prince or even a King.
