This 15th Century Domed Kettle Helm is crafted from 16 gauge steel. The inside of the helmet is blackened and is lined with an adjustable leather suspension liner. The chin strap is of leather and it can be adjusted to fit with its brass buckle.

Kettle helms with high domes such as this example ably serve to both deflect the force of a blow and to take the hit on a point farther away from the head of the man within. The brim can deflect high angle arrow fire from the head and shoulders – the brim also makes keeps many incoming side blows far away from the head when they connect. Helms such as these were good for infantrymen and men on guard duty because they do nothing to obstruct vision and hearing. Ideal for a sentry or an infantryman in a formation who needs good situational awareness between him and his comrades.
