The word Sheriff comes from the early English medieval term Shire-Reeve. The Shire Reeve was a man who was either appointed by a Lord to oversee his lands, enforce the laws and organize watches, patrols and basic defense. Some were elected by the people and this practice became increasingly common. After the Norman conquest, the position changed into the Sheriff being an agent of the king and the enforcer of his laws and the tax collector within a shire county.

This sword has a broad blade that tapers to a sharp point, a short grip and a bold and broad cross guard – these features date the style to 1275-1340. These shorter swords, though compact, are very responsive and quick and the wide blade ensures that when they hit, they do so with great force.

The Sheriff has a hand ground high carbon steel blade is tempered for flexibility and edge retention. The crossguard and pommel are cast from mild steel. The grip is stabilized birch wood, cord-wrapped and fitted over with tight leather.
