The Kage No Senshi Tsurugi Ken from BattleBlades brings a rarely reproduced style of Japanese sword to the market and true to their style ensures it is immaculate in its design, fittings and quality. The theme of swords fit for the Shinobi is continued with this Tsurugi / Ken style sword. It is sleek, slim and compact without losing considerable striking power. The dual-edged blade is ideal for thrusting and cutting alike, and the use of Unokubi Zukuri blade geometry lends it additional mass for striking power for heavy stabs and surprisingly powerful cutting, whilst utilizing weight reducing grooves to keep the sword nimble and responsive. Its grip is larger than the other swords of BattleBlades Kage No Senshi family to give its bearer more leverage and power to bear. This style of blade lends itself well to the mystique of the Shinobi and it has ancient origins. Tsurugi style blades were some of the oldest forms of sword in Japan, dating as far back as 700 BC, with most of them being of Chinese descent in regards to design.
The blade of the Kage No Senshi Tsurugi Ken is hand forged from T10 high carbon steel and clay tempered to possess a genuine hamon with its full beauty brought out by a high quality, mirrored blade polish. The tsuba is blackened steel with hilt fittings to match and the habaki is of brass. The tsuka is fitted with beautifully dyed, night-blue rayskin which is bound in deep, dark blue knotted ito cord with silvered menuki to complete the sword. Its matched saya scabbard is well carved from wood and finished with a fine gloss black lacquer. The kurigata and koiguchi are polished buffalo horn with the koiguchi being a unique shape to aid in sheathing and unsheathing the sword more easily and ably.
