This Sallet is in the taller and rounded style popular in medieval Italy; the visor can be tilted upwards and it has a great range of motion. It can be fixed into place with a closure hook. A riveted plate gives protection to the neck and it has some articulation so as to not hinder neck movement. The blackened interior of the helm is finished with a padded cotton suspension liner which is adjustable with its included leather cord. An integrated chin strap of leather with a steel buckle keeps the helmet in place upon the head.

The Sallet, the helmet which superseded the earlier Bascinet, gives good protection to the top, side and back of the head, as well as some of the neck. Some variants, such as this one, included a visor to fully complete the defense of the head. The taller, rounder ones were typically Italian in style or inspired from the Italian city states. The sallets with a shallower dome and extended neck protection were more typical of the German Principalities.
