The Bollock Dagger was a popular sidearm from the 13th to 18th centuries in Northern Europe. Its height of popularity was during Englands Tudor period. Civilians and soldiers alike carried it as their sidearm for defense. Many of these daggers were found in the wreck of Henry VIIIs Mary Rose.

This Bollock dagger has an unsharpened blade of high carbon steel. A brass plate is at the base of the blade. The guard, pommel and grip are all of wood. It comes with a brown leather sheath with riveted belt loop. Two matching brass decorative pieces are affixed to the pommel and sheath.

Pretty Good Overall First off, the dagger itself is pretty nice. The blade was mounted a little crooked inside the handle, but this is hardly noticeable unless you are really looking and doesn’t appear to have any negative effects on the handling or use of the product. Not sure what the composition of the blade is, but after unpacking it, I let it sit overnight in its sheath and planned on oiling it and the like the next morning, to which I awoke seeing it was already starting to get several rust spots! Can’t say I’ve ever had a blade start that process that quickly without ever even using it. Luckily, this cleaned up rather easily and since oiling it I haven’t had any issues since.

Now, my only real gripe is the sheath. For a $60 dagger, you get what you pay for, but if you plan on sharpening this dagger or are looking for a historically accurate sheath this one is severely lacking. It is extremely tight around the blade and I would be very concerned that if I planned on using it with a sharpened blade it would cut right through it. It also doesn’t match any existing sheathes from the period to my knowledge. Luckily, I was able to crank out a proper one in a couple of afternoons!

Overall, I still give it a four-out-of-five stars, simply because, again, for $60, it’s still a pretty good purchase, especially if you are looking for a display piece for events that you don’t have to worry about someone tearing it up!

I love this dagger. It feels so good in the hand and with a little sharpening, it’s turned out to be a great addition to my collection.
