Prior to World War II, the Butterfly Sword was virtually unknown outside of southern China. This changed at the close of the 1940s, when the Communists took control of mainland China, forcing many Kung Fu masters to flee the oppressive regime and establish new schools elsewhere. Currently, due to the spread of Kung Fu, these once obscure swords have become quite popular. Typically, Butterfly Swords come in pairs that are cleverly nested together so they appear to be one sword not two. When they are drawn, they can be quickly separated and wielded in both hands to make wickedly effective chops, slashes and thrusts.

The Cold Steel Butterfly Swords feature sharpened high carbon spring steel blades, and wood grips with cord wrap. The ‘D’ shaped guards have long forward quillions, so they can both deflect and trap various opposing weapons. Includes a leather scabbard that holds both swords.

Can’t wait The swords I received were two totally different swords. They sit totally off centre in the scabbard and the brass D guards don’t sit flush one is bigger than the other, one is properly polished and the other not so.They were butter knife sharp which I’ll have to send away for professional sharpening. When cold steel say the strongest and the sharpest some times it’s not really the case and wonder where they out source their craftsmanship from…clearly not American made… shame. These were purchased for real combat and I’m a bit warey as to how they will hold up.
The leather work how ever is second to none cannot fault it in the slightest.
The service from kultofathena was sensational the items were safely packed and shipped so quick it made my head spin!! I’m now looking to expand my collection and definitely shopping with them again.

For the most part I was satisfied; these swords are well built and have a sharp edge, but there were a couple of notable issues. First, they came absolutely drenched in oil. It was beading on the blades, pooling in the detail work on the guard, and even the handles left my hands coated in oily residue. The second issue is the sheath. You’re supposed to be able to easily draw both swords simultaneously with one hand, but the sheath is so tight that I had to exert significant force, using both hands, to even get one of them out. Overall, however, I am satisfied with the purchase.
