This Cold Steel Two-Handed Sword was designed by swordsman Luke LaFontaine and is intended to be a merging of a 16th century two-handed sword with the guard of a complex hilt longsword. The blade is crafted from sharpened and tempered 1050 high carbon steel. The blade was deeply blued to give it a blackened finish. The guard and pommel are of blackened steel; the grip is overlaid in stitched black leather. The sword is paired with a scabbard of leather with blackened steel fittings.

With a long and robust blade, a glance at this sword belies its purpose as a brutal chopping and hacking greatsword. With an ample grip providing plenty of leverage, this sword can move and strike without feeling overly cumbersome or weighty. The complex guard provides excellent protection for the hands and forearms. The weighted and pointed pommel is an ideal shape for a pommel strike should the opportunity present itself.

Too cool for words…. I don’t own this sword, nor have I ever held or swung one. I give it a 4 star because it’s just off the hook bad-ass looking. If the pommel was peened, and you could get it in bright steel……..it would be on my wall right now. This thing puts the CS Great Sword to shame. Those clean lines and those sexy curves on the guard…..mmmm….mmmm……mmmmm!

Not Bad, Better than expected Now, we all know the reputation that Cold Steel does have when it comes to… well everything. Now I looked at this sword for a year or so before actually purchasing it and I honestly have to say, not bad.
      Pros:
The complex does give this sword a wonderful appearance and style all its own.
After doing some cuts at 2-3 inch thick branches for a few hours the edge help up and so did the finish and the pommel did not come loose. In fact, it hasn’t come loose yet after ~6 months of cutting random stuff.
This sword with its weight and general size does satisfy the “Big Sword” feeling.
      Cons:
Not as sharp as was expecting, but the accu sharp worked just fine.
The welds on the guard components isn’t the cleanest, but that coming from a welder so I can be picky.
Now i cannot definitely confirm this, but there seemed to be a slight, “wave” to the overall blade. It’s not bent or warped in anyway I think it might be more or less the finish?

Overall I think it is decent.

Good Sword Overall, it’s a pretty great weapon. Came a little dull but a good bit of sharpening fixed that. Good balance, not all that heavy, but I’m a big guy so that could change for someone smaller. Well made, just make sure to keep it oiled. Worth the money.

Excellent Sword for price This is a big sword. Fittings are all very tight. No wiggle or play in the blade after cutting multiple targets. The weight is about right for this size of sword and the length of the handle and the weighty pommel balance the blade and make it a pretty swift sword for its size. Recovery time after swings is good (again helped by the long handle and pommel)

I have handled the cold steel great sword, and compared to the Lafontaine, the original great sword handles like a bus doing a U-turn)

Having a blued finish means a little more upkeep, but I cant see this in a non blued version..it wouldn’t look as good or as classy.

The Lafontaine Sword of War is fast (for its size), cuts like a laser and is built to last a long time.

If you want a quality war sword, look no further. Nothing compares even close to this price range.

Great for Collectors, Horrible for HEMA So, im going to keep this nice and short.

This sword, given that its a Cold Steel and withon the $300 range, is a BEAST. It will chop through just about anything you put in front of it. All the fittings are tight and it looks majestic as all hell.

Heres the problem though; it is HUGE amd HEAVY.

DO NOT expect to be maneuverable or be able to perform any fancy longsword techniques with this sword. It is not for that. It is not fast. It is not light. Its size will get in the way. Ive smacked my own head more than once with those gigantic crossguards.

Alright, thats all the info you need. So, now its up to you to determine wether or not you want to buy it.

I didn’t buy mine from Kult of Athena. But I’ll still give my thoughts on the sword. it’s not a peened construction it’s a threaded construction. Mine was not sharp and on mine the metal seems pretty soft. It’s hard to sharpen without removing the bluing and making it all look bad.

On top of that, the tang on mine came bent. I look at this more of a decoration then something usable.

      definitely affordable great sword.
it’s not a wall-hanger but real functional sword.

      -pros
      highly maneuverable for size
      sturdy fitting
      robust blade
      cheap price & free scabbard
      convenient maintenance

      -cons
      too long grip
too heavy for the length of the blade
      welding defect on guard
