The Cold Steel Winged Spear has a large spearhead of sharpened 1055 high carbon steel. The edge is moderately sharp and the steel has been blackened. The shaft is of stained and varnished ash. The spear comes disassembled; a pair of wood screws are provided to secure the spear head to the shaft.

The short lugs of a winged spear are often thought to prevent over-penetration, but this may be a secondary purpose for the lugs. Its likely that they could have been used to dash aside opposing spears and to hook and pull the shield of an opponent. These two uses would be of good use in shield-wall formations common in the early medieval period where a fellow warrior could exploit such an opening. These winged spears are often associated with the Frankish warriors of Charlemagne and the Vikings.

Please Note: Our photos show an approximation of the completed weapon – we did not screw the head to the pole, this is why the screws are not present in the photos. Also poles may have slight bends or warps, however, we inspect them to try and pick the best ones available.

Fantastic Monster of a spear! This thing is a beast of a weapon. Definitely usable as a hewing polearm. The lugs make for good parrying and deflecting defenses while a swing to a target will knock it good, followed by a quick slice and you have won!

This is a Beast!! Owning several spears, I was not prepared for the heft of this monster. The ash shaft is much thicker than the European spear or the Lance Point spear.. I would say this puts it in the pole arm section instead of the “throwing spear” section.

This monster definitely takes a lot of getting used to, and work to make it quick in your hands, if it was able to have a buttcap to counter the weight of the head, which by itself, is heavy, then perhaps it would be more nimble, but considering how thick the shaft is, no readily available butt cap fits.

Still, I cant recommend it more.. it is intimidating and formidable.

Good weapon. Strong spine, decent edge needing some sharpening. Screws for securing could be better, but friction does a good job by itself. Pole was thick and strong but still flexible, a good length as well as ergonomic. Good value for your money. Would recomend. Good hunting or killing spear

It should have come with screws for the head or instructions on what to do about it, had to find screws small enough to fit the holes but they were so small that they would break halfway through.

I cut myself removing them so I had enough and decided to break the spear in half. Took some elbow grease, this thing is solidly build, I thought the wood was hollow due to the sound. It’s not

Upon receiving my spear I was impressed with how well it was packed for shipping! The one I received varies a bit from the spear pictured as the one shown has a large central spine going down to the tip and the one I got is shaped more like a traditional spear or like the European spear but with wings. This will actually make this functional for cutting as the ridge wont get in the way. The shaft oddly has an angled cut at the end instead of just being cone shaped and one wing isnt quite centered to the blade but that shouldn’t cause any issues. An end cap would also be a great addition. Overall though this is an impressive spear and I’m pleasantly surprised to have received what appears to be an updated version. It came reasonably sharp as well, definitely recommend getting this if you want a spear that you can use for attacking random hay bales, chopping limbs high up off a tree or just hang on a wall.

Pretty good, spearhead is really nice but absolutely huge. The shaft has a varnish on it that I’m not really a fan of but it can just be sanded off. Definitely on the heavier side but it is a boar hunting spear.
