Based off of the design of the Thai Dha swords, the Burmese Hunter Machete is a surprisingly quick and tough cutter that can be wielded with either two hands for power and leverage, or a single, choked up grip. Even in single handed use the machete remains nimble and responsive. The blade is crafted skillfully and and heat treated in Condor’s state-of-the-art tempering ovens and is of 1075 high carbon steel. The machete is constructed with a full tang grip for a particularly robust construction and its grip is comprised of two well polished and finely finished grip scales of dark walnut which are brass riveted directly to the thick tang. Care was taken to ensure that the grip widens steadily toward the end to ensure a secure handhold on the tool. It comes with a sheath of durable, welted leather with stitched construction and a belt loop for wear.

The Thai Dha is a staple of the Thai martial art of Krabi-krabong, where it is common for martial artists to wield one in each hand with impressive skill and speed.

      Fatally flawed
The blade itself is excellent. The grind is even and a nice convex. It has a smooth and even distal taper. It looks like it could do some damage to light brush and even some thin saplings.

The sheath isn’t anything to write home about, but it holds the blade well and snug without making it hard to draw. That’s where the good ends.

The handle is awful. I was expecting a fairly round handle as traditional dha/darb have them, but this is worse. The handle is oval shaped but in the wrong direction! Holding the handle comfortably places the blade at 90⁰, like you plan on striking your target with the flat.

It’s mind boggling, really. Why they would have it narrower edge to back and fatter flat to flat, I can’t fathom. If it weren’t for that, I’d give this 5 stars, but with this it’s basically unusable and unsafe. It doesn’t even work with a pinch grip because of this. I’ve written to Condor to see if this is intentional or I just got a weird one. Over a year and they never wrote back.
