The Darksword Crusader Sword has a forged blade of 5160 high carbon steel that is dual tempered; it has a core of 48-50 HRC and the blade edge is tempered to 60 HRC. This differential-tempering gives the blade a hard edge and softer core, allowing it to both flex and return true without sacrificing the ability to have a sharp, hard edge that will not dull as quickly as a softer steel.

The pommel and crossguard are of steel and the wooden grip is overlaid with brown leather. Its wooden scabbard is wrapped over with brown leather and the tip is of steel.

The simple cruciform-hilted sword was favored by many Crusaders, perhaps as much for its pragmatic Norman-styled roots and its resemblance to the Cross of Christianity itself. The Crusader could rend his foes asunder with a sword in the very form of the Cross that he bore on his shield and the altar he knelt at. To brandish it at his foes in the Levant, Spain and the Baltics was to brandish the very symbol of the cause that brought him to far-flung lands.

Though often associated with the Crusaders, a simple cruciform-styled sword was common sight in both the early and high medieval period among all warriors in Europe. It is a basic, yet distinctly elegant knightly design.

    1. Joseph D.

Great sword A great, well balanced, and sturdy weapon. This sword is similar to Darksword’s Norman sword, but I find this one more attractive. I recommend this sword to anyone interested in early-crusade era swords.
