The Type X Medieval Sword by Darksword Armory has a 5160 high carbon steel blade. The blade of the sword has been dual-tempered giving it a core hardness of 48-50 HRC and a greater edge hardness of 60 HRC. Dual-tempering a blade in this manner helps it retain a sharp edge whilst being able to flex at the core to resist breakage.

The crossguard and pommel are steel and the wood grip has been wrapped with brown leather. Its accompanying scabbard is made of wood and is wrapped with brown leather and finished with a steel chape.

The Type X sword blade has its roots in the Dark Age and it was used well into the Medieval Period, making it a blade style that was in a longer historical use than most blades of the Medieval Period. The style has a wide blade, coupled with a typically wide, but shallow fuller that runs the length of most of the blade.

This blade style displays an adept knowledge of mass displacement by its smith to keep the blade strong, yet relatively lightweight despite its wide tip. The spatulate-type tip allows its to be used in the thrust and would work reasonably well against lightly-armored opponents. It is clear however that the Type X is primarily a cutting sword, as the blade tip has been kept relatively wide to keep more mass at the tip, ensuring that its main cutting portion forward of its center hits hard and with decisive force.

The Type X seems to have been a main sword type when most combatants on the field were armed with chainmail and yet lighter armors. The Type X seems to have begun to fall out of favor to swords with thinner stabbing tips as plate armor and its variants became more common among warriors.

Darksword Armory Type X or XII as DSA says it is. Ordered this a while ago and I was a bit skeptic about it because this exact same one with the sword belt looks quite different from this because of the longer handle and pommel. But I picked it up today in the post office, went home and opened the cardboard box and just hoping to myself that there is nothing wrong with it. (There is a lot of videos and rumors that DSA is a bit sloppy in their quality control, sword being bent or breaking and stuff like that.) Anyway, I see the sword wrapped in really good and I catch a glimpse of the pommel.. ALRIGHT! Just as these pictures show! Everything looks and feels (POB 5″) just right. Nice and straight and looks just fine, can’t wait to try cutting with it. The sword is just about paper cutting sharp from the tip and 2 inches down and the rest is a bit blunt. But I can’t blame KOA for this as DSA does the sharpening and I didn’t pick the sharpening service from KOA, so that’s on me. but all in all, I really like this sword. It looks just like the pictures show and I can’t wait try try it. Weirdly there isn’t any videos or any other people that has done a review of this sword.. mmm.. maybe I’ll be the first!!

Thank you KOA for the excellent service! Definitely buying from you guys again sometime soon!
      10/10
